The goal of the Zero Waste Committee was to shut down the Southeast Resource Recovery Facility (SERRF) incinerator located in West Long Beach. Members, in collaboration with Zero Waste USA <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/17vkFvRB4CPQRaIOlqr4gfAkmz9Ao7jW2\/edit\">developed a Zero Waste Plan <\/a>to address the transition once SERRF shut down in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, La Cosecha Collective, our decentralized community garden, hosted monthly meetings, and in this space, members began discussing what a community compost hub can become.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2028After many conversations, members began organizing volunteer days to construct the bin, and a member offered their home as the site.
