As the nights get longer and the days get colder, nothing hits the spot like a warm tamal and a hot drink to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. But is there such a thing as too many tamales? That was a rhetorical question cause there isn’t, and that’s why you should join us for a “Too Many Tamales” scholarship fundraiser!

Come through on Saturday, Nov 15, to Hollydale Park in South Gate for a smorgasbord of tamales and baked goods made with love by community members! We’d love for you to share your best tamales recipe in our fun competition! Attendees and special judges will decide the winners.

Baked goods, pastries, aguas frescas, hot chocolate, and other treats will also be available, with all proceeds benefiting our scholarship program.

About the scholarship: A former Commerce resident, Madeline Gardea, was a community leader who was an original member of East Yard. She was a tireless advocate for the people of Commerce and SELA, always willing to be a strong voice for the vulnerable. This scholarship helps memorialize her legacy and continues her work by helping grow the next generation of social and environmental justice leaders.

If you would like to enter tamales for the competition, donate baked goods, join the bake-off, and/or volunteer to help with setup, sales, or cleanup, fill out this form.

It’s tamal season!
